Vols Use Trick Plays to Attack Florida

Two of the biggest plays in the first half of the Tennessee-Florida game came when the Volunteers went to trick plays. The Vols offense struggled all game, but these two trick plays led to touchdowns for the Vols and opened up the sputtering offense. What I found most interesting about the plays was that they are not new to anyone familiar with head coach Butch Jones or offensive coordinator Mike DeBord. Both of the plays have been run by the Tennessee coaches at their previous stops, so it was cool to see a blast from the past as the coaches reached back and called some old trick plays. Missouri Tricks Arkansas, Scores 2

In their 21-14 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Missouri Tigers ran one of the best 2 point conversion plays of the season. The play involved all sorts of trickeration, as there was a direct snap to the running back, reverse to the slot receiver, then a throw back to the split end for the score. Red Wolves Use Reverse, Fake Reverse to Score

Arkansas State head coach Blake Anderson has gained a bit of a reputation for running trick plays. The Red Wolves have attempted a fake punt, flea flicker, and double pass, among other misdirection plays, so far this season. A reverse and fake reverse may not seem like much of a trick compared to some of these other plays, but those have perhaps been A-State’s most successful “trick” plays this season. Vols Dial Up Trick Play vs. Utah State

One of the more interesting plays Tennessee ran against Utah State was a play that was unsuccessful and, as a result, did not get much attention. Late in the second quarter, the Vols were starting a drive at the Aggies 45 yard line and offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian dialed up a trick play to attempt to give Tennessee an easy score.
